Sandimmun Neoral 100mg capsules are a potent immunosuppressant medication. This cyclic polypeptide, composed of 11 amino acids, selectively targets T-lymphocytes. By inhibiting the activation of lymphocyte calcineurin during the G0 or G1 phase of the cell cycle, Sandimmun Neoral prevents T-lymphocyte activation and the antigen-dependent release of lymphokines, including interleukin-2 (a T-lymphocyte growth factor). Its action on lymphocytes is specific and reversible. Unlike cytotoxic drugs, it doesn't suppress hematopoiesis or affect phagocyte function.
Sandimmun Neoral extends the lifespan of allogeneic transplants of skin, heart, kidney, pancreas, bone marrow, small intestine, and lung. It also suppresses cellular rejection reactions in allografts, delayed-type hypersensitivity skin reactions, experimental allergic encephalomyelitis, adjuvant-induced arthritis, graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), and T-lymphocyte-dependent antibody formation.
